South Glos wants your views on their foster support

South Gloucestershire Council writes that it "wishes to provide those young people in its care with the best possible future and recognises that remaining with known and trusted carers is an important step in preventing social exclusion, deprivation and poor life chances in adulthood. For a number of young people it will be within their interest to remain in their foster placement under a Staying Put Arrangement. The local authority has a legal duty to enable young people to remain in their previous foster placement post 18 years of age should they choose to do so.

The Staying Put Policy

This Staying Put Policy has been developed to meet the expectations of the Children & Families Act 2014 and to give a Framework under which young people can continue to receive support within existing foster placements.   The policy sets out the procedure for extending fostering arrangements beyond a young person’s eighteenth birthday under a non-LAC agreement, the financial implications for the former foster carer, and the regulations that govern the new arrangement and the supports required.
