Preparing for Adulthood - 6th July - North Somerset

This workshop is facilitated by the Family Carer Support Service. The aim of the session is to help families with children approaching adulthood. It is aimed at parents/carers of young people aged 14+ or young people of this age themselves who are living in North Somerset. We hope you will gain a better understanding of what lies ahead for your child and feel reassured and excited about their future. You will feel better informed about their rights and more confident about challenging decisions when needed. Come along to find out about:

● Strengthened rights under The Care Act 
● Moving from children’s to adult services
● Transition duties

Refreshments are provided BUT please bring a packed lunch or purchase some lunch locally.

EHCP Annual Review Workshop (South Glos) 28th June

This workshop is aimed at parents of children with SEND and/or young people with SEND who have an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and who live in South Gloucestershire.

The workshop will provide you with information about Annual Reviews. By the end of the workshop, we hope to have helped you understand:

* how to prepare for an Annual Review of an EHCP

 * how to ensure your views are heard

 * what should happen both during and after the Review.

It will be delivered by Supportive Parents' South Gloucestershire team.

Registration from 9.45am - 10.00am. Refreshments are provided. Car parking is available on site.

You are encouraged to bring your child/young person's current EHCP with you or any other relevant paperwork, such as letters from professionals/school report etc.

EHC Annual Review Workshop, Thursday 17th May

This FREE workshop is aimed at parents or carers of children with Special Educational Needs or a Disability (SEND) who have an Education Health and Care Plan and who live in Bristol. The workshop will help you understand the process of an EHCP Annual Review, feel confident in preparing for your child or young person’s Annual Review, and feel confident in helping your child or young person to prepare for their Annual Review. We have 20 spaces available. Booking is essential, by clicking on the image to the left.  (You can book from 27th April until bookings close on 11th May).

The event will be held in central Bristol at the Bristol Energy Hub, Ground Floor, Unit 5-6, 1 Canon’s Road, Bristol BS1 5UH. The venue is located along the waterfront, near to the Watershed and the Tourist Information Centre.

Parents and carers are encouraged to bring with them their child's EHC plan and any additional relevant paperwork, on the day.

SEND Tribunal National Trial 

The SEND national trial (single route of redress) launched on 3rd April. This two year national trial extends the powers of the First-tier Tribunal (SEND) to make non-binding recommendations on the health and social care aspects of Education, Health and Care plans. The Tribunal will be able to do this for Local Authority decisions made and EHC plans issued or amended, as part of a SEND appeal.  Read more here.

DfE announcement

 

The Secretary of State for Education has made a series of announcements under the banner: New action to improve outcomes for children with additional needs. This includes:

•        The launch of an externally led review of exclusions, led by former Children’s Minister Edward Timpson

•        A ‘roadmap’ setting out how the government will transform alternative provision

•        A £4 million Alternative Provision Innovation Fund

•        A call for evidence on how to improve educational outcomes for Children in Need
