Portishead Support Group Success


A big thank you to Mandy Stopard who came to our support group last night to talk with parents about children's behaviour, and thank you to all the parents who attended (over 30 of you). Many gave a brilliant talk providing us with some excellent strategies and ideas that we hope parents will find helpful. A happy and peaceful weekend to all!

Meet Mandy Stopard, Child Behaviour Specialist, at our Portishead Support Group


Supportive Parents Support Group meeting Thursday 14th May 7 - 9 pm St Barnabas children's centre, Portishead, BS20 6LN
A workshop with Mandy Stopard, Child Behaviour Specialist.


On Thursday 14th May we will be welcoming Mandy Stopard, Mandy is a freelance behaviour consultant working with parents and educational settings to effectively manage behavioural challenges that children and young people with additional needs may present, both at home and in school.  The session will be a talk, plus a Questions and Answers time to with the aim of providing parents and carers with further ideas for improving their child/young person's behaviour. Strategies discussed will be helpful for parents of children with a diagnosis or traits of ADHD and ASD/Asperger’s Syndrome, and Social, Emotional, mental health needs, or anyone who is finding their young persons behaviour difficult as a result of additional needs.

MY EXPERIENCE AND APPROACH
I have a proven track record of gaining success in changing behaviour.
I have a wealth of experience, and my advice is based on positive and respectful management of children with appropriate boundary setting
I am parent and a qualified teacher
I have taught for over 30 years
I have had experience as a Head of House and manager in an SEN department
I've worked in two Local Authorities as a Behaviour Advisory Teacher
I am trained (and provide training) in a range of behaviour-related areas, including ASD, Attachment Disorder and ADHD
I support and advise adults (school staff and parents) to manage the behaviour of children and teenagers (4-16 years)

I work with young people to develop their emotional and social skills

Our Coffee Morning at Bromley Heath Primary School, Fri 1 May

This coffee morning is for you to find out more about your SEND Information, Advice and Support Service. We also offer a support group that meets monthly.  Come along and find out how we can help you.

South Glos Support Group is Tuesday 21st April at 7.30-9pm, Room 1, Supportive Education Unit, Brimsham Green School, Broad Lane, Yate BS37 7LP

We look forward to seeing you at support group on Tuesday when we will be welcoming Mr Mark Nesden, Manager, 0-25 Service and Mrs Duane Chappell, SEN Team Manager, 0-25 Service.

They are coming to explain the funding changes for children and young people with statements of special educational needs or education health and care plans who attend special schools, resource bases, or other, independent, specialist provision.

Thank You

Thank you to Jenny Maxwell who came to our Information, Advice & Support group last night in Weston - Jenny gave parent/carers some great advice using Michelle Garcie Winner's strategies to help children with autism. Thanks also to the parent/carers who came along too making it such a successful evening.
