This FREE course is open to parents and carers living in Bristol. It is suitable for you if you have a child with special educational needs.
The course is facilitated and presented by Supportive Parents’ legally trained and experienced practitioners. It will provide base-line information about SEND processes and procedures and support participants to consider and reflect on their own experiences as parents of children and young people with SEND.
The aim of the course:
• for parents to feel they can participate at a realistic level in planning their child’s education
• for parents to gain the information and skills to advocate for their child
• for parents to be able to negotiate on equal terms with professionals to achieve better educational outcomes for their child
The style of this course relies on group participation and the emphasis is less on learning specific facts than on developing the ability to know where to go for information and the confidence to do it.
Participants should be able to attend all three sessions to gain maximum benefit from the course.
